1. What is the purpose of this study group?
The aim of this study group is to systematically study the Bhagavad Gita, understand its timeless teachings, and apply them in our daily lives. The examinations provide a structured framework for learning, but they are not the ultimate goal.
2. Who can join this course?
Anyone with an interest in learning the Bhagavad Gita is welcome. No knowledge of Sanskrit is required.
3. Do I need prior knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita?
No prior study is required. However, some familiarity with the Bhagavad Gita verses or their general context will be beneficial. Beginners are also welcome, provided pre-work can be done in terms of practicing the verses and reading the meaning.
4. Who conducts the classes?
The classes are conducted by Smt. Vanisri Ragupati.
5. Are the classes free?
Yes. The classes are conducted completely free of charge.
6. When do the classes begin?
- Introductory Class: Monday, 10th August
- Regular Classes: Every Tuesday
- 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM (IST)
7. In which language are the classes conducted?
The classes are conducted entirely in English.
8. How can I join the classes?

9. Which platform is used for the live classes?
The classes are conducted live on Zoom.
10. What if the Zoom meeting reaches its participant limit?
If the Zoom meeting reaches its limit (100 participants), the class will also be streamed live on YouTube.
11. Where can I watch the recordings?
All recordings will be uploaded to YouTube. We recommend subscribing to the channel (https://www.youtube.com/@vanisriv) to receive notifications for live classes and new recordings.
12. Which portion of the Bhagavad Gita will be covered first?
The first course covers Gita Prarambha (Chapters 1–3).
13. Which textbook should I purchase?

14. Will study material be provided?
Yes. Pre-reading assignments, reference material and previous years' question papers (during the course) will be shared wherever applicable.
15. Is pre-reading required?
Yes. Participants are expected to complete the assigned pre-reading before each class.
16. Will Sanskrit pronunciation be taught?
No. This course focuses on understanding the Bhagavad Gita and preparing for the examinations.
17. Is memorization compulsory?
No. Memorization is not compulsory.
18. Why is memorization encouraged?
Our aim is to make the Bhagavad Gita a lifelong companion, not merely a subject for an examination.
19. Can I attend the classes even if I do not plan to write the examination?
Yes. The classes are open to everyone. Writing the examination is entirely optional.
About the Examinations
20. How many examination levels are there?
There are four levels.

22. Is the examination written or oral?
It is a written examination.
23. In which language is the examination conducted?
The examination is conducted in English. We also have an option to write in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi etc. Will need to provide this information during exam registration.
24. Is the examination conducted online?
Yes. It is conducted online with remote invigilation.
25. How does the online examination work?
Participants receive the examination link, keep their video switched on during the examination, submit a scanned copy immediately afterwards and later send the original answer sheets via speed post.
26. Is the examination difficult?
No. The questions are straightforward and based on the prescribed syllabus.
27. What types of questions are asked?
The examination includes short answers, short notes, essay questions and verse-based questions. Higher levels also include Mahabharata, social reformers and great thinkers.
28. What kind of Mahabharata questions are asked?
Questions focus on the prescribed portions, including important characters, incidents and Parvas.
29. How many marks is each paper?
Each paper carries 50 marks and has a duration of 2 hours.
30. How are multiple papers conducted?
They are generally conducted over multiple sessions, such as morning and evening sessions across a weekend.
31. What is the examination fee?
Approximately ₹60 per level (subject to revision).
32. When will examination registration open?
Registration opens in November.
33. Can I decide later whether to write the examination?
Yes. You may attend the classes first and decide before registration opens in November.
34. What if I miss a class?
You can watch the recording on YouTube and continue with the assigned pre-reading. However, attending the live classes regularly is strongly encouraged.
35. What is the ultimate goal of this course?
The goal is not simply to pass an examination, but to understand the Bhagavad Gita, reflect upon its teachings, and gradually make them a part of our daily lives. The examination serves as a milestone to motivate consistent study.
